Throughout the war B-52 bombers "could fly at heights that prevented them being seen or heard" (Spartacus Educational). These planes would drop bombs on villages suspected of housing Vietcong. The chemicals and napalm caused unbearable pain and led to the death of many children and civilians during the war.
They come without warning
White clouds litter the sky
Birds of all sizes fly as high as one can see
They look below onto the streets
They see the town and all its people
Unlike the silent sky the village is full of sound
The footsteps of the people,
The laughter of children and conversations grace the air
Then suddenly the joyous sounds from the village go silent
A sudden buzzing sound cuts the air
Eyes go from looking straight to looking at the sky
Moments later there is an explosion
Flames arise on the horizon
The sky has become filled with grey clouds
They run for shelter,
Shelter? there is no such thing in a place like this
People run frantically for a place to hide
Another bomb hits
Another crater made
Another home destroyed
Another victim killed
The lucky ones die
For the rest of them,
They face the agonizing burns from the napalm
Nothing remains of the people or the town
The planes vanish as if they were never there
All that is left is screams and the crackling of fires
Birds of all sizes fly as high as one can see
They look below onto the streets
They see the town and all its people
Unlike the silent sky the village is full of sound
The footsteps of the people,
The laughter of children and conversations grace the air
