The photograph on the left was taken by photographer Nick Ut on June 8, 1972 during an air strike on Trang Bang. Phan Thi Kim Phuc is nine years old in this photo and is running next to her brother (on left). Their village has just been made victim of a Vietnamese napalm bomb air raid. Kim “had pulled off all her burning clothes”, was in agonizing pain, and even “lost consciousness” due to the napalm bomb’s burning chemicals (Fass and Fulton). This photo shows in detail how tragedies occurred every day and children were affected in a large way. Not only does this show how harmful this war was to children, but also how unexpected a bombardment could occur. According to The Bigger Picture, “just before the napalm was dropped soldiers (of the South Vietnamese Army) had yelled to the children to run but there wasn't enough time”, so the bombs claimed many victims.
