The bombing of villages occurred very often during the war. Between 1965 and 1973 approximately 8 million tons of bombs had been dropped on Vietnam(Spartacus Educational). Due to the excessive amount of bombs many houses had built air raid shelters in their houses made of dried mud(American GI). Though the shelters protected some from some explosions, people did not stand a chance against napalm bombs. These bombs would explode, the chemicals would attach to the skin, burn through the muscle and bone, and cause fifth degree burns(Spartacus Educational). The cartoon below depicts a scene where B-52s have bombed a village and the civilians are injured and trying to escape to the safer side(to the left).
